This sturdy perennial works in multiple ways to earn its keep in the orchard and garden. The roots form nodules that store nitrogen from the air and put it into the root zone where it can help fertilize fruit trees. The flowers bring in many beneficial insects and pollinators, as well as being a great cut flower for bouquets. The stems can be slashed back to provide mulch and it grows dense enough to help shade weeds below it. I even use the seed pods in the music studio for homegrown maracas! Rabbit and deer resistant, and good drought tolerance once established.
