Hickory
Hickory trees are great for so many reasons. Some species, like Shagbark Hickory, provide one of the tastiest nuts on the planet. Seriously, they taste like they walnuts dipped in maple syrup! Others, such as the poorly named Bitternut Hickory, yield a fantastic oil that is a perfect, local substitute for any expensive, imported vegetable oil. All species are great for wildlife, and the lumber value of Hickory is amazing. The wood is among the strongest, most resilient lumber of any tree, perfect for crafting tools, archery bows and gunstocks. Great firewood, and the Shagbark even looks like no other tree in the landscape with it's famous shaggy bark. Every forest would do well to have some Hickories in the community! Plant two or more for pollination
