Kousa Dogwood

from $10.00
sold out

Most commonly planted for their massive flower show, Kousa Dogwood fruits are also edible and delicious. When soft and ripe they taste somewhere between a mild persimmon and a papaya. We just break the skins and chew the smooth custard-y pulp out. Four season beauty with huge spring blooms, highly ornamental summer fruit, vivid red-purple fall foliage, and unique exfoliating bark in winter. An absolute stunner of a landscape tree! Resistant to dogwood anthracnose, which has decimated our native dogwoods. Some areas are starting to consider Kousa Dogwood invasive so plant accordingly. I see them planted in many yards, parks and cemeteries and they don’t seem to spread aggressively in our area at least, but it is worth cosidering. The trees we gather seed from are the most abundant, delicious dogwoods we have ever come across. Don't overlook this tree in the food forest/orchard!

Zones 4-8

Ships as a bare root tree, around 2 ft. tall with branches
